5 Wellness Activities to Keep Your Mind & Body Healthy

We all know that it is important to practice self-care to keep our mind and body healthy. But sometimes it is hard to find time with all the important things we have to do every day – work, family, friends… So we forget about our self-care, and our entire wellness suffers from it.

Today, we’ll talk about 5 free wellness activities that can help you keep your mind and body healthy.

Walking

Walking is one of the easiest and most accessible activities that you can help with your well-being. It’s free, simple to do, and can be done anywhere around your neighborhood, a park, a walking trail, or even on a walk during lunchtime. Ask friends, family, or co-workers to join you, it’s one of the best wellness activities that can help clear your mind, and it requires no equipment.

Music

Listening to upbeat music and moving your body are great wellness activities to incorporate into your life. Music is helpful to improve your mood, and all you need is a free music app on your phone, such as Pandora or Spotify’s free app plans. You can listen to your favorite upbeat tracks on your way to work, at home, and even through home speakers as you shower and get ready for the day. 

Meditation

Meditation has proven to reduce stress levels, and improve concentration, focus, creativity, and emotional stability. If you’re a beginner, try a guided meditation app. Some of our favorites are through the Fitbit and Peloton apps. However, there are multiple guided meditations on Youtube for free. The great thing is that you can meditate from home. Start with a 2-minute mediation and slowly increase your time as you continue to practice and improve.

Reading

Reading books can be an effective way to promote creativity. It allows you to create a reading world while your body destresses and relaxes. Here are some free ways to read books; if you subscribe to Prime you already have the free kindle books included in your subscription and all you need to do is download the app. Other ways to read for free are by using Google Books or Barns & Noble Nook apps. You can read from your phone anywhere, at home, at the airport, or on your way to work if you use public transit. The important step is to start somewhere, and even a short 90-page book that makes you laugh so hard your face hurts is better than none for your well-being.

Working Out

Our last free wellness activity is working out, and I can already hear the “I don’t like to workout” wails. And that is okay, you don’t have to love it, but you can help your body destress by working out so that your body will reap the benefits, and thank you. Even a small 15-20 minute workout is beneficial for both mind and body! Yoga is relaxing and improves flexibility. If you’re not into yoga, try pilates which is one of my favorites. If you’re more in the intermediate or advanced stages, you can try to incorporate a variety of new routines. Working out doesn’t have to cost a thing. Take a look at some of these workout videos we’ve done in under 1 hour. Most importantly, you can do it all from home, yet you can also join a yoga studio or fitness center if you prefer to workout with friends, family, or co-workers.

Whether you live in a city or a small town or have a small space, there are plenty of ways to stay active. There are hundreds of other activities you can choose from, pick the activity that works best for you and your lifestyle. Don’t forget to track your milestones with a self-care planner so you can celebrate your accomplishments. You simply can’t go wrong by trying to improve your overall wellness.
